板式冷卻器是汽車冷卻系統中最重要的組成部分，通常是由出水室、進水室以及主片與散熱器芯片共同組合而成的。板式冷卻器的結構簡單，且經濟高效，在性能方面也隨著時代的發展也在不斷的加強。在板式冷卻器的使用中，有時候會有不進水的狀況發生。

有的時候并不是加不進去水，而是感覺并沒有加多少水，但是散熱器就已經顯示加水加滿，但是行車距離沒有多少的時候就又顯示缺水，也就是我們平時所說的“虛量”。

上述兩種情況大都是因為節溫器的原因造成的。正常情況下當我們加水的時候，節溫器閥門上的小孔是需要泄流的，但是如果這兩個小孔堵塞的話，就會出現氣體無法正常排出，進而導致冷水并沒有充滿水套的時候就顯示加滿，其實還是缺水的。
